Grass Matting

Our range of grass protection mats are made from recycled rubber and are ideal for protecting high foot-traffic grassy areas. With their anti-fatigue properties and holes, they can be used in a wide application of environments, from restaurants, to golf courses and helping reinforce playground safety. They ensure that outdoor areas are suitable to walk on without creating additional mud. Our grass mats are an environmentally friendly, durable solution that can be used on everything from contoured surfaces to busy walkways. If you have larger areas that need to be covered, don’t worry – grass mats can be joined by simply using cable ties!

Individual Mats FAQs

Can I cut grass mats to size?Yes - the mats can be cut easily with a sharp blade. We recommend using garden shears or secateurs for cutting your matting to size.

How big are the holes in the matting? Each hole is approximately 30mm.

Can I mow the grass over the top of the mats?Absolutely! We just advise that you take care when taking the mower on and off the mat (and the blade is at a slight angle) so that you don't accidentally cut the edge of your rubber matting.

Do I need 16mm or 22mm Grass Mats?Struggling to choose a thickness of grass mat?As our 22mm matting is 40% thicker than our 16mm mats, we usually recommend this for the extra protection that it offers. However, if you're preparing an area for light use or to create a hard standing path where depth is not as important, our 16mm grass mats might be better suited for your needs.

How do I maintain rubber grass mats? The rubber grass mats are very low maintenance, but there are a few maintenence tips we recommend to ensure their longevity. We generally suggest brushing or blowing away debris as appropriate to keep drainage holes clear and surfaces non-slip.

Rolls FAQs

How are the grass mat rolls delivered to me?Due to the size and weight of our rolls, all deliveries are sent through our external pallet courier. We can fit up to 4 rolls per pallet, which will arrive as a kerbside drop-off. If you envisage any access issues ahead of delivery, please let us know before/at the time of ordering.

How do I install the rolls? If you're installing your grass mat roll on grass or soil, we recommend using our plastic pegs to pin down your rubber grass mat rolls. They fit into the holes of our mats and sit flush inside them. We advise using a peg every 1 to 1.5 metres on each edge of the roll.

Are the rolls safety tested for playground use?Our 22mm, 7.5m x 1.0m rolls have been certified in line with British Standards to meet a critical fall height in excess of 3 meters. Tested by independent external testers, our certificate confirms that our matting reaches the required standard for use in playgrounds.

While we have not had our other rolls specifically safety tested, there is no reason as to why any other 22mm rolls would fare differently as they are produced using the exact same rubber compound. We would not advise our thinner 16mm rolls for use in play areas, and instead would recommend sticking to the 22mm rolls due to their extra thickness.

If you are in any doubt because a specific roll has not been certified, our 7.5m 22mm rolls is our recommendation.

More Information About Grass Mat Rolls

Grass mat rolls are commonly used in commercial environments for walkways, both on grass to prevent muddy areas developing, and on non-grass areas due to their anti-fatigue and non-slip properties.

Common uses are for outdoor events, golf courses and construction sites. If being installed on grass we recommend also purchasing packs of our plastic pegs to ensure the rolls are held secure to the ground. If buying multiple rolls then we also recommend connecting them together with cable ties.

The rolls come in a variety of thicknesses and sizes. They are manufactured from approximately 75% recycled rubber, with the remainder being natural rubber and binding agents.
