Non-woven geotextiles are designed to improve the longevity and performance of particularly soft ground in construction projects. They are commonly used for material separation purposes as well as filtration, drainage and reinforcement. The geotextile acts as a barrier between initial fill layers and further layers of material. By preventing the mixing of different sub base materials while they permit water to pass through, soil stability and drainage is improved. Manufactured using a needle punch process, terram geotextiles are non-woven, meaning they’re extremely permeable and and you can easily spread granular material across soft areas of original ground.

What are Geotextiles used for?Geotextiles are used to support paved and unpaved roads, railways, car parks and hardstandings, cycleways and footpaths, and Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS).
How long do Geotextiles last?Geotextiles are manufactured to last 50-100 years.
Are Geotextiles environmentally friendly?Geotextiles are environmentally friendly. They are manufactured from inert, high-tenacity virgin polypropylene, offering durable performance (reducing need for replacements) to support long term infrastructure stability.
What are Geotextiles made from?They are manufactured from inert high tenacity virgin polypropylene.
What's the difference between woven and non-woven Geotextiles?There are several differences between woven and non-woven Geotextiles. Woven Geotextiles are, as the name suggests, are made by weaving threads together. Whereas non-woven Geotextiles are needle punched and then thermally bonded together. Non-woven geotextiles are our preferred choice as they offer improved filtration and drainage.
What size area can they cover?Geotextile rolls come in various sizes from a mini pack at 4.5m x 11m, up to 4.5m x 100m. They can be cut to size to cover smaller areas.
Can water get through Geotextiles?The Geotextile is designed to be highly permeable, allowing water to pass through while continuing to separate and filter the ground layers.
When do I need to use Geotextiles?We recommend using them when laying surfacing over soft or variable ground. They are often required to stabilise granular fills, prevent the mixing of sub-base and sub-grade, and provide drainage or filtration (e.g., in roads, car parks, SUDS).
How do I install Geotextiles?Lay the geotextile over a prepared subgrade (cleared of debris and level), roll it out with the long edges overlapping according to the manufacturer’s jointing methods (e.g., Terram’s overlap guidance). Secure the sheets by pegging, stapling or welding if required, then place your fill or surfacing material on top, ensuring that the textile remains flat and wrinkle-free.
