Temporary Access

Our temporary access products are designed to protect grass, soil and other vulnerable surfaces during short-term projects, events and maintenance work. Our temporary access mats can be connected to create pedestrian routes and vehicle access across suitable ground, helping to reduce rutting, mud transfer and surface damage. Rubber grass mats and grass reinforcement mesh may also be suitable where access is lighter or required for longer periods. Product choice depends on the expected traffic, ground conditions and duration of use, so very soft, waterlogged or unstable ground may require preparation or a different access system before installation.

Temporary Access FAQs

Which product is best for temporary vehicle access? For short-term routes carrying vehicles or site equipment, our connectable temporary access mats are normally the strongest option. They are rated for loads of up to 20 tonnes, subject to ground conditions, route design and correct installation. Very soft, waterlogged or unstable ground may need preparation before use.

Can temporary access products protect a lawn during building work or events?Yes. Temporary access mats help spread loads and reduce rutting, mud transfer and damage to suitable grass, soil and hardstanding. Grass mats or reinforcement mesh may suit lighter or longer-term use. The right product depends on traffic, ground strength and how long the route is needed.

Can the access system be lifted and reused? The temporary access mats are designed as a reusable, connectable system. Inspect and clean them after use, and replace any damaged connectors or boards before the next installation.

How do I install these products?Check the route for sharp objects, deep ruts, voids and poor drainage before installation. Lay and connect the selected product in accordance with its installation guide, and inspect the route during use. No surface-protection system can compensate for bog-like or structurally unstable ground.

Solution #1: Temporary Access Mats

Our connectable temporary access mats are the strongest option in this category for short-term vehicle and machinery routes. Each 1.2m x 0.8m x 22mm board has a raised traction surface and is rated for loads of up to 20 tonnes, subject to the ground conditions, route design and correct installation. The boards can be joined to cover larger areas, then lifted, cleaned and reused.

Solution #2: Rubber Grass Mats

Our 16mm and 22mm rubber grass mats suit lighter temporary access, pedestrian routes and the protection of established grass. Their open design allows drainage and grass growth while helping reduce mud and surface wear. They are not intended for regular vehicle access, so use the temporary access boards where vehicles or site machinery will travel repeatedly.

Solution #3: Rubber Grass Mat Rolls

Rubber grass mat rolls provide continuous coverage for longer pedestrian routes, with fewer joins than individual mats. The range includes 16mm and 22mm options in 7.5m and 10m lengths. They are useful for temporary footpaths, entrances and lighter access over suitable grass, but are not designed for regular vehicle traffic.

Choosing the Right Solution

I need temporary vehicle access over grass, soil or hardstandingChoose the connectable temporary access mats. They provide the highest load capacity in this category and help spread vehicle loads, reduce rutting and limit mud transfer. Suitability still depends on the ground strength, drainage, traffic and installation.

I need a temporary pedestrian route over established grassRubber grass mats or grass mat rolls are normally the better fit. Individual mats are flexible for smaller areas, while rolls cover longer routes with fewer joins. These products are not intended for regular vehicle traffic.

Product Guidance

What ground preparation is required?Inspect the route for sharp objects, deep ruts, voids, standing water and unstable ground before installation. Very soft or waterlogged ground may need preparation. No surface-protection product can compensate for bog-like or structurally unstable conditions.

Can temporary access mats be reused?Yes. The connectable access boards are designed for repeated use. Clean and inspect them after lifting, and replace any damaged boards or connectors before the next installation.
