Golf Pathway Mats at Dinas Powys Golf Club, Glamorgan

Over the course of 4 separate deliveries in Autumn 2023, Grassmats supplied over 4,000m2 of rubber golf pathway mats to Dinas Powys Golf Club. This was a whopping 2,700 individual mats!

Dinas Powys Golf Club faced a dual challenge: ensuring safety for golfers whilst preserving the natural beauty of their course. They needed a solution that would provide anti-slip walkways for players and allow golf buggies to traverse the course without causing damage or erosion.

Grassmats Solution

Dinas Powys GC approached us as they had seen our golf pathway matting used effectively at a nearby course and were impressed with the results.

The Grassmats team provided samples and technical advice over the course of a few months whilst funding was obtained by the customer.

Dinas Powys GC were impressed with the high-quality of our rubber grass matting which were designed to withstand heavy use and varying weather conditions, our rubber grass mats offered the perfect blend of durability and quality. By creating designated golf course pathways and buggy paths with our mats, Dinas Powys Golf Club could ensure safe navigation while minimising the impact on the course.

One of the main advantages of using a designated golf path is that it focuses traffic down a certain area, and prevents other areas of the course being walked on.

Due to the ease of installation of these mats, Dinas Powys Golf Club used their own Greenskeepers to lay the mats and fix into place, using our pegs and cable ties that were supplied alongside the matting.

Between Dinas Powys GC and Grassmats, we arranged 4 separate deliveries, a week apart, that were staggered to allow for the mats to be moved on site before the next delivery was made. We arranged for a smaller rigid vehicle with tail-lift to make the delivery due to access and unloading issues.

Dinas Powys Golf Club are looking to infill the mats with sand on certain pathways, rather than seeding the paths and allowing the grass to grow through. The above photos are an example of this, where they have cut out paths for a potential sand infill.

By using this method, the ground is reinforced and the sand is held together, so it is not displaced. The rubber matting allows golf buggies to pass over the matting without sinking into the sand.

Laid sideways, our golf pathway mats created a 1.5m wide path.
