Requirement: Overflow Grass Car Parking for 30 Cars on Matchdays & Events

Issue
Merritts Brook Fields are part owned by a small consortium which includes Bellfield Junior School. The Fields are primarily used for school activities and Bartley Reds Football Club. It is also hired out for events throughout the year. The increasing demand for the field, combined with lack of suitable road parking has led to an ever-increasing demand on parking. A particular problem was for the pickup and dropping off area on matchdays and spectator parking. With the lack of suitable sites in the grounds, restrictive planning issues, excessive costs and drainage logistics, hardstanding could not be considered.
Solution
It was agreed, after meetings on site, to use Grass Reinforcement Heavy installed by Grassmats. This was decided after taking into consideration soil and drainage conditions, the expected frequency of use and low costs needed to provide the solution. Once the Grass Reinforcement had become entangled with the grass, would become almost invisible. The matting was installed by the Grassmats install team over two days.
Benefits
Merritts Brook Field consortium now have a reinforced grass car parking area which can be used all year round for parking and drop off & pick up for up to an extra 30 cars. The grass park will remove the pressure to park in the on surrounding streets, need no extra drainage installed and had no planning required. The grass car park is very much in keeping with the green surroundings and the long-term ethos of the school.
