Requirement: Reinforced grass overflow parking for church visitors
Client: Glazebury Methodist Church
Location: Glazebury, near Warrington, WA3 5LD
Product supplied: 12 rolls of Heavy Duty Grass Reinforcement Mesh, 2m x 20m
Area covered: 480m²
Fixings supplied: 36 packs of metal U pins
Issue
Glazebury Methodist Church required an existing grassed area to be reinforced so it could be used for additional car parking.
The church needed a practical way to create extra parking capacity while retaining the grassed appearance of the site. A permanent hardstanding surface was not required, making grass reinforcement mesh a suitable option for the intended use.
The reinforced area was expected to be used throughout the year as required, but not as a constantly heavily trafficked car park. The proposed 480m² installation was expected to accommodate approximately 18 to 22 cars, based on standard parking dimensions and vehicle movement space.
Solution
Grassmats supplied and installed 12 rolls of Heavy Duty Grass Reinforcement Mesh, covering approximately 480m².
The mesh was installed across the existing grassed area and secured using metal U pins. The finished surface provides reinforcement for vehicle use while allowing the grass to continue growing through the mesh over time.
The site had a very slight slope and some gentle undulations, but the area was considered broadly suitable for installation. The ground was firm underfoot during the site visit, even after recent heavy rainfall, suggesting suitable drainage conditions for the proposed reinforced grass parking area.
Benefits
The installation provided Glazebury Methodist Church with a discreet and practical overflow parking area.
- Additional parking capacity for church visitors
- Reinforced grass parking without installing tarmac or concrete
- A permeable surface that retains the grassed character of the site
- Heavy Duty Grass Reinforcement Mesh suitable for vehicle use
- A solution suitable for occasional and seasonal use throughout the year
- Installed with metal U pins to secure the mesh to the existing ground
Once the grass grows through and entangles with the mesh, the reinforced surface will become more established and visually blend into the existing grassed area.
Outcome
The completed installation created a reinforced grass parking area for Glazebury Methodist Church, helping the site make better use of its existing outdoor space.
For churches, village halls and community venues, Heavy Duty Grass Reinforcement Mesh can provide a practical overflow parking solution without the cost or visual impact of a permanent hardstanding car park.
As with all grass reinforcement mesh installations, ongoing maintenance is important. Regular mowing, slow vehicle speeds and preventing vehicles from moving beyond the reinforced area will help the mesh perform as intended.
