Grass Parking for Light Aircraft

Requirement: Reinforcement for Grass for Taxiing Aircraft

Location: Sherburn in Elmet, Leeds

Issue 

Sherburn Aero Club are based at Sherburn-in-Elmet Airfield in West Yorkshire. The club has become busier in past years leading to a shortage of parking spaces for the light aircraft on hardstanding.  Parking on the existing grass – especially in winter – had proved troublesome with the wheels rutting the ground and getting stuck.  

Solution

The solution was to use Grass Reinforcement Heavy to enable the aircraft to taxi/park on the grass safely and throughout the year.  This was decided after taking into consideration soil and drainage conditions, the expected frequency of use and low costs needed to provide the solution.  Once the Grass Reinforcement had become entangled with the grass, would become almost invisible.  

Benefits

Sherburn Aero Club now have a reinforced a grass parking and taxiing area which can be used all year round.  The extra available reinforced areas will remove the pressure to park only on hardstanding during the cooler wetter months and needed no drainage installing.  The grass car park is very much in keeping with the existing surroundings and the long-term ethos of the club.
