Requirement: Parking for New Village Hall
Client: Claxby / Lincolnshire County Council
Location: Playing Fields Opposite New Village Hall, Claxby
Claxby have had a village hall for some time, but it was run down and so hardly used by the local residents. This was due the lack of facilities and bad condition of the building. After receiving extensive grants, the Village Hall was given a through facelift and made suitable for the many local groups and events. As the work neared completion, the thoughts turned to lack of suitable parking for the expected increase of visitors. Opposite the village are some playing fields. The fields are primarily used as an amenity and for events. With the lack of suitable sites in the area, a strong local green ethos, excessive costs and drainage logistics, hardstanding could not be considered.
It was agreed, after a meeting on site, to use Grass Reinforcement Heavy installed by Grassmats. This was decided after taking into consideration soil and drainage conditions, the expected frequency of use and low costs needed to provide the solution. Once the Grass Reinforcement has become entangled with the grass, would become almost invisible. The matting was installed by the Grassmats install team over two days.
When the Village Hall is fully opened in April, the grass parking area will allow the Village Hall to be used very close to its potential and the outlay on the carpark expected to be quickly recovered. There is no need no extra drainage to be installed as no water runoff will be created with all the rainfall going into the ground. The grass car park is very much in keeping with the green surroundings and the long-term ethos of the local community.
