Case Study: Cheshire Wildlife Trust

Background

Cheshire Wildlife Trust is a charitable organisation that works to protect and restore wildlife habitats across Cheshire East, Cheshire West and Chester, Halton, Stockport, Warrington, Tameside, Trafford and Wirral.

Recently, Grassmats collaborated with Cheshire Wildlife Trust to support a nature reserve project in Twemlow Green, Cheshire, where the Trust is planting 7,000 trees.

This is just one of many sites that the Trust is working on to meet an ambitious target as part of their “30 by 30 aim” to create 2000ha of new woodland across Cheshire by 2030.

Challenge

The challenge faced by Cheshire Wildlife Trust was how to protect the ground while volunteers were parking their cars on the grassy area. The trust needed a solution that would not harm the environment or damage the grass, while still providing safe parking for volunteers. The trust contacted Grassmats and the two organisations worked together to find a solution.

Solution

Grassmats donated grass reinforcement mesh to Cheshire Wildlife Trust. The mesh is made from recycled materials and is designed to provide a durable, yet environmentally-friendly solution for reinforcing grass surfaces. Results

The donation of grass reinforcement mesh by Grassmats has helped Cheshire Wildlife Trust to protect the ground during the planting of 7,000 trees in Twemlow Green.
