Issue

St Francis Of Assisi Church is a thriving church in Friars Park, Birmingham. The Church is in a built-up area of Birmingham and so, at times, for events like weddings and busy services, this has led to a lack of car parking spaces. This has, in turn, led to a clogging up of the local roads during the busy times.  Extra parking was urgently needed.  To meet latest planning regulations, the parking solution needed to be fully permeable, be able to avoid additional drainage and runoff and to be in keeping with the location. Also, the finish needs to be grassed.

Solution

Bodpave 85 Permeable Cellular Pavers with a grass fill was chosen to meet the requirements on site. Bodpave 85 is a tried and tested product that has been on the market for 20 years. The Bodpave 85 was selected as it is ideally suited for grass over other cellular grids as is it allows a good depth of growing media for grass stability without compromising stability and strength. Bodpave 85 has shown to live up to expectations when installed correctly and used appropriately. The installing contractor – Four Oaks Conservation – followed the Grassmats install guidelines. The contractor laid Bodgrid on the bottom of the required MOT Type 3 hardcore base and so reduced the necessary depth of hardcore required and also reduced spill removal costs.

Benefits

Instating the Bodpave 85 pavers meant that an overflow car park was laid that met planning regulations, is fully permeable and the installation needed no extra drainage, produced no extra water runoff and all at same time reducing costs. The grass finished Bodpave 85 is aesthetically pleasing and is keeping with the green ethos of the area.
